Job summary

Sydney Adventist Hospital in NSW, Australia, is seeking a committed Operating Theatre Assistant to join our surgical team and deliver patient-centred perioperative care. This permanent full-time role supports theatre prep, sterilisation, and post-procedure readiness.

You will work with a supportive team, uphold health and safety, infection control, and quality assurance standards, and assist with patient transfers and positioning across shifts.

Qualifications

• Experience in an operating theatre or clinical setting is preferred.
• understands infection control and sterilisation procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation and maintenance of the operating theatre, ensuring equipment and supplies are sterile and ready.
• Support safe patient preparation, transfers, positioning and bedding for procedures.
• Maintain hygiene standards and restock theatre supplies; support infection control and QA.
• Adhere to health and safety regulations and contribute to safe surgical procedures.

What you will be doing in this role

We are seeking a committed and professional Operating Theatre Assistant to join our surgical team in delivering exceptional, patient-centred perioperative care. This is an excellent opportunity to start or grow your career in healthcare while learning from an experienced and supportive team. In this important role, you will assist in the preparation and maintenance of the operating theatre, ensuring that all equipment and supplies are fully prepared, sterile and ready for use. You will also play a key role in cleaning and restocking the theatre, maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and sterility.

You will provide support in the safe and respectful preparation of patients for surgery, including assisting with patient transfers, positioning, and arranging beds to ensure comfort and safety.

A key aspect of this role is ensuring strict adherence to health and safety regulations, infection control protocols, and quality assurance standards, contributing to the overall success and safety of surgical procedures.

This is a permanent Mon-Fri role, ideally to work a mix of morning and afternoon shifts between 6.30am and 10.30pm.

Who we’re looking for

• Ideally, you'll have experience in an operating theatre or a similar clinical setting.
• A good understanding of infection control and sterilisation procedures is important, along with a genuine commitment to creating a safe space for patients and staff.
• You'll enjoy working in a fast-paced operating theatre environment where teamwork, learning and patient care go hand in hand.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills will help you connect with others easily.
• You’ll need the physical stamina to stand for longer periods and assist with patient transfers when needed.
• Holding a Certificate III in Health Services Assistance and a First Aid Certificate would be great, though not essential.
