Northern Sydney Local Health District is seeking a Chief Operations Assistant to lead a 20-strong team in the NBH Operating Theatre complex, ensuring safe, efficient patient transport and theatre readiness.

You will supervise rostering, attend relevant meetings, and coordinate cross‑disciplinary activities to support elective and emergency procedures. A strong emphasis on safety, communication, and collaboration is essential.

Northern Beaches Hospital features 486 beds, 50-bed Emergency Department, 20-bed general and cardiothoracic ICU, a state‑of‑the‑art theatre complex, world‑class education centre, and excellent staff facilities including café and secure on site car parking. The Interventional Suite accommodates adult & paediatrics patients for planned & unplanned procedures &/or surgery. It comprises of 14 state of the art operating theatres including a Hybrid theatre; 2 Cardiac Catheter Labs, 4 procedure rooms, 41 bed recovery unit, Anaesthetics Service and state of the art Sterilising Services Department. The service currently operates 7 days, 06:00 to 21:00hrs.

What You'll Be Doing

The Chief Operations Assistant is an integral part of the patient care team, working under the direction of the Deputy Theatre Manager supervising approximately 20 FTE Operations Assistants. You will provide direction and coordination of a team of responsible for maintaining a clean and well stocked environment. You will ensure rostering and support are managed on a day to day basis, attend department meetings, act as a member of relevant committee groups as well as assist the team to transport medication between inpatient pharmacy and operating theatres as required.

Responsibilities

Supervising the Operations Assistant role is the main priority as they are responsible for patient transport before and after procedures and positioning for surgery and includes ensuring operating tables and positioning devices are cleaned, maintained and applied using appropriate manual handling techniques, to support elective and emergency surgery. As well as collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to provide safe patient care. This team is an integral part of the NBH Operating Theatre and the following attributes will make you the successful candidate:

Ideal Candidate

• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Previous leadership skills in an acute setting
• Previous experience in intraoperative theatre duties including transfer of patients onto the operating table and positioning of patients or willingness to learn.
• Ability to commit to a roster providing afternoon and evening cover 7 days a week, including night shift
• Specialised cleaning skills
