Job summary

Macmahon is seeking an Open Cut Examiner in Queensland to oversee surface mining health and safety during mining activities. Reporting to the Production Superintendent, you will ensure statutory compliance and lead a safety-focused team.

You will coordinate incident investigations, drive corrective actions, and contribute to SHMS development and auditing. A strong leadership track record and Mine Act knowledge are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Open Cut Examiner Certification for Surface Coal Mines is required.
• Proven leadership and experience managing large-scale surface mining operations.
• Strong incident investigation and root-cause analysis capabilities.
• Solid understanding of safety regulations and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Play an active role in incident investigations, identify root causes, ensure required documentation is completed, and implement corrective actions where applicable.
• Assist in developing, reviewing and auditing the SHMS relating to mining activities in and around the mine excavation.
• Lead, coach and develop team members by setting clear expectations, monitoring performance and mentoring employees.
• Provide clear performance expectations to personnel and subcontractors, reinforcing correct behaviours through recognition, encouragement and timely disciplinary procedures.
• Liaise with Mining Supervisors and People & Capability to address employee relations, safety, compliance and production issues promptly.
• Participate in daily pre-start meetings, inspect and audit mining activities, personnel and equipment to ensure acceptable risk levels and authorised operating practices, while championing a culture of safety, integrity, continuous improvement, operational excellence and respect.
