Position Descriptor:
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Classroom Primary Special Education Teacher to join our school community. The successful applicant will lead a primary classroom and design engaging, personalised and inclusive learning programs that respond to students' strengths, interests, communication needs and developmental levels.
The teacher will plan, implement and evaluate differentiated learning aligned with curriculum requirements. They will use explicit teaching, hands‑on activities, purposeful play and real‑life experiences to develop literacy, numeracy, communication, social interaction, regulation, wellbeing and independence.
Key responsibilities include developing and reviewing meaningful One Plan goals; using visuals, symbols, AAC and assistive technologies; implementing Ready to Learn Plans, health care plans and risk‑management processes; and making reasonable adjustments for diverse sensory, physical, behavioural, communication and learning needs.
The teacher will create a safe, structured, stimulating and accessible classroom with predictable routines and high expectations for every learner. They will use assessment, observation and student data to monitor progress and guide future teaching.
The role requires strong classroom leadership and collaboration with students, families, SSOs, teachers, leadership and allied health professionals. The successful applicant will provide clear direction to classroom support staff to promote consistent, safe and student‑centred practice.
Applicants must hold a recognised teaching qualification and registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia. They will demonstrate experience in primary or special education, sound curriculum knowledge, effective behaviour support, strong communication and organisation, reflective practice, and a commitment to student dignity, safety, inclusion and growing independence.
