Job summary

Mackay Regional Council is seeking a practical, on-site Project Inspector to oversee capital works delivered by external contractors. You will visit project sites, monitor works, identify issues early and report on progress, quality, safety and environmental outcomes.

You will balance site priorities with support from an experienced delivery team. The ideal candidate has carpentry knowledge or extensive construction inspection experience, with a current Queensland C Class licence and the ability

Qualifications

• Carpentry trade qualification preferred; otherwise extensive demonstrated experience delivering, supervising or inspecting building and construction works.
• General Construction Induction Training is required.
• Current Queensland C Class Driver Licence or interstate equivalent; interstate licences must be transferred to Queensland within three months of commencement.
• Practical experience in construction, contracting or trade supervision, including site monitoring, daily diaries, progress reporting and quality documentation.
• Ability to read, interpret and apply construction drawings, plans, scopes of work and management plans on site.
• Sound knowledge of construction practices, quality assurance, workplace health and safety and environmental requirements.
• Proactive and adaptable approach, strong judgement and attention to detail; ability to work autonomously and build constructive working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Inspect building, civil, roads, parks and plumbing-related capital works to confirm contract compliance with drawings and standards.
• Undertake regular site visits to monitor quality, safety, environmental performance and progress, documenting non-conformances and risks.
• Maintain accurate diaries, progress reports and site records, providing timely information to delivery teams.
• Interpret and apply drawings, plans and construction management plans on site.
• Provide clear technical advice and work with contractors, trade workers, asset owners and internal teams to resolve issues.
• Help improve inspection, compliance and project delivery practices.
