Job summary

Central Australian Aboriginal Congress in Alice Springs is seeking an Occupational Therapist to support Aboriginal children aged 0-18 and their families to optimise development. You will work in a multidisciplinary team to assess, treat, manage and help families access the NDIS for a range of developmental and learning disorders including FASD, ASD and ADHD.

  • Trauma-informed, family-centred approach to care.
  • Awareness of Aboriginal culture and context in Central Australia.
  • Ability to collaborate with external providers.
  • Current NT Driver's Licence or ability to obtain.

  • Base Salary: $110,916 - $124,195 (p.a.)
  • Total Effective Package: $135,070 - $151,761 (p.a.)*
  • Full Time, Continuous Contract
About the role

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing support to Aboriginal children aged 0-18 and their families to optimise their child’s development. The position works within a multidisciplinary team providing seamless assessment, treatment, management, and support to access the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) for children with a range of developmental and learning disorders including Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the following essential requirements:
  • Full registration as an Occupational Therapist as recognised by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA), with a minimum of two years’ post grad experience.
  • Knowledge of child development, as well as neurodevelopmental disorders including FASD, ASD and Global Development Disorders.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in providing clinical case management support to vulnerable families with complex issues, that is child focussed, family centred and trauma informed.
  • Proven skills in the assessment and therapeutic intervention for a range of childhood disabilities including physical, cognitive and emotional development.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture, and history and knowledge of factors influencing the health and lives of Aboriginal children and families in Central Australia.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster and maintain collaborative working partnerships with external providers.
  • Current NT Drivers Licence, or ability to obtain.
