Job summary

NSW Health is seeking an experienced Nurse Unit Manager to lead the Inpatient and Maternity Unit at Lithgow Hospital. The role oversees a 28-bed combined medical, surgical, aged care and palliative care unit, obstetric services and ambulatory care, providing strong clinical and operational leadership.

The successful candidate will drive safe, patient-centred care, manage resources efficiently and mentor a multidisciplinary team within a rural setting, aligned to NBMLHD standards and regional NSW

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife - Division 1 with AHPRA and extensive post registration nursing and Midwifery experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and support a culture of integrity and professionalism which adheres to legislation and policy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to liaise and negotiate with clinicians, managers, staff and other stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage human, physical and financial resources of the unit to deliver safe, efficient health care.
  • Excellent leadership skills to motivate, inspire and manage staff to achieve service goals.
  • Evidence of commitment to patient/client/customer focused care, clinical governance and quality improvement.
  • Demonstrates CORE Values: Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment.
  • Current Driver's Licence and ability to travel within the LHD as required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a 28-bed Inpatient Unit including Mixed Medical, Surgical, Aged Care and Palliative Care.

  • Coordinate patient care and manage workload, workforce and finances.

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and dynamic Nurse Unit Manager to lead a diverse rural health service and play a key role in delivering high quality, patient-centred care. This leadership position is responsible for overseeing a broad range of clinical services, including a 28-bed Mixed Medical, Surgical, Aged Care and Palliative Care Inpatient Unit, an Obstetric Service, and an Ambulatory Care Service.

As the Nurse Unit Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of the unit environment and will provide strong clinical and operational leadership to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care. You will lead and support nursing and multidisciplinary teams, promote excellence in patient outcomes, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and person-centred care.

Working within the vision of the NBMLHD Nursing and Midwifery Workforce, you will collaborate closely with patients, families, carers and healthcare professionals to ensure services are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with contemporary best practice. You will be pivotal in coordinating patient care, managing workforce and financial resources, supporting staff development, and maintaining high standards of clinical governance across the service.

What you will bring to the role
  • Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife - Division 1 with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) AND extensive relevant post registration nursing and Midwifery experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and support a culture of integrity and professionalism which adheres to legislation and policy.
  • Demonstrated high level of written and verbal communication skills and ability to liaise and negotiate with clinicians, managers, staff and other key stakeholders.
