Job description
The Team

The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital in Tasmania. The hospital provides all general and specialty medical and surgical services as well as paediatrics, obstetrics and psychiatry. It is also the state’s tertiary trauma centre.

The Emergency Department (ED) provides a tertiary level service for people with illness or injury 24 hours a day 7 days per week. Our busy ED provides care for >75,000 patients annually with an admission rate of more than 35% and a paediatric case load of 20%.

The RHH Emergency Department has a co-located Emergency Medical Unit (EMU) which is a short stay ward for patients requiring a brief hospital stay (generally less than 24 hours). The EMU has 24 short-stay beds operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with a high turnover ward environment and a variety of clinical presentations.

The Role
  • Is responsible, within the defined scope of practice, for the development, provision and evaluation of Emergency Medicine clinical care that ensures optimal patient/client/family outcomes.
  • Draws upon their professional competencies to improve clinical service outcomes through effective research and quality improvement activities and will actively participate in statewide and national research, publication, and education for the specialty of Emergency Care.
  • Clinically focused and capable in research, education and leadership as applied to clinical care.
  • As a leader, advisor and mentor, the NP is responsible for other senior nurses practicing in the field.
You will need
  • Extensive experience as a registered nurse with advanced competence and clinical proficiency in evidence-based nursing practice in Emergency Care with an awareness and understanding of the internal and external service needs.
  • Demonstrated broad understanding of the legal and ethical framework; the political, social and organisational environment impacting on health service delivery in Tasmania, with the ability to apply this understanding within the Nurse Practitioner context.
  • Demonstrated expert capacity to undertake education; research; develop, contribute to and apply quality improvement principles and strategies; and contribute to collaborative initiatives, within a multidisciplinary practice model.

Details of appointment

Multiple, fixed term full time or part time, shift worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for a period of up to seven (7) months.

Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary

$144,146 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

Post Graduate Allowance of up to 7.5% based on qualification type

Eligibility

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and endorsed to practice as a Nurse Practitioner
