Job summary

JBX Pty Ltd is seeking a product development professional to drive concepts in food, nutrition and supplements from brief through to commercialisation. You will independently progress projects, evaluate ingredients and formats, and ensure regulatory compliance while coordinating with suppliers and contract manufacturers.

Responsibilities

• Critically review literature and supplier studies to assess evidence quality and relevance to proposed products.
• Apply regulatory requirements relating to ingredients, formulations, dosage, labelling and claims.
• Support procurement with ingredient specs and sourcing options.
• Work with contract manufacturers on formulation development and production trials.
• Maintain clear development records, specifications and recommendations.
• Manage project priorities and communicate progress and decisions to R&D Manager and Supply Chain Team.

Job description

Reporting to the R&D Manager, you will develop and evaluate product concepts across our food, nutrition and supplement portfolio, and independently progress assigned projects from initial brief through to commercialisation. You will bring practical development experience and the ability to investigate issues, assess options and take projects forward with appropriate guidance and approval.

Key responsibilities

Take ownership of assigned development projects, translating product briefs into practical development plans and progressing them through evaluation, trials and launch preparation.

Research and evaluate ingredients, formulations and product formats against the intended product benefits, target consumers and commercial objectives.

Critically review scientific literature and supplier‑provided studies to assess evidence quality, identify limitations and determine relevance to proposed products.

Investigate and apply regulatory requirements relating to ingredient suitability, formulation, dosage, specifications, labelling and proposed claims.

Identify technical and regulatory gaps early, assess their implications and recommend practical solutions.

Support the Procurement team with ingredient requirements, technical specifications and evaluation of options for sourcing and quotations.

Assess development samples, trial outcomes and testing results, and recommend improvements or further investigation.

Work with contract manufacturers on formulation development, manufacturing feasibility, production trials and technical handover.

Prepare and maintain clear development records, evidence summaries, specifications and technical recommendations.

Manage project priorities and outstanding actions, keeping the R&D Manager and Supply Chain Team informed of progress, risks and decisions requiring approval.

About you

A degree in Food Science, Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Science or a related discipline.

Demonstrated practical experience in new product development within food, nutrition, supplements or a closely related industry.

A thorough understanding of the development process, from product brief and feasibility assessment through formulation, evaluation, manufacturing trials and commercialisation.

Experience independently taking responsibility for development projects or substantial development workstreams, with clear examples of your own decisions, actions and outcomes.

In‑depth knowledge of regulatory requirements relevant to the products you have developed, with demonstrated ability to interpret and apply them to practical development decisions.

Ability to critically evaluate scientific studies and supporting evidence, including study design, methodological quality, limitations and relevance to the intended product.

Sound judgement in distinguishing robust scientific findings from overstated or inadequately supported marketing claims.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to investigate unfamiliar issues and present clear, evidence‑based recommendations.

Commercial and industry awareness, including an understanding of how product positioning, cost and manufacturing constraints influence development.

Strong organisation, attention to detail and follow‑through across multiple projects.
