Job summary

Hunter New England Health is seeking two new graduate Physiotherapists to join the Lower Hunter Physiotherapy Department in 2027, rotating through orthopaedics, medical, subacute inpatients and outpatients across Maitland and Cessnock hospitals.

You will complete a 12-month full-time program with support from senior clinicians, comprehensive training, and opportunities to develop clinical skills in acute and subacute settings while contributing to high-quality patient care.

Where you'll be working

The Lower Hunter Physiotherapy Department is seeking two highly motivated, adaptable and passionate new graduate Physiotherapists to join our team in 2027, with opportunities to work across Maitland Hospital and Cessnock District Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity to build a strong foundation for your physiotherapy career while gaining broad clinical experience across a range of acute and subacute inpatient wards and outpatient settings. The opportunity

This position reports to the Site Seniors at Maitland Hospital and Cessnock Hospital. This is a 12-month full time new graduate program consisting of 4x 3-month rotations through orthopaedics/surgical ward, medical ward, subacute inpatients, and outpatients.

Duties Include:
  • Competent in conducting a thorough, systematic assessment that addresses client's issues and concerns, including referral to other services where required.
  • Demonstrate good clinical judgement in using assessment findings and evidence-based knowledge to formulate an individualised treatment plan across all core areas of physiotherapy.
  • Provide information and consult with the client/families about the treatment plan.
  • Deliver effective treatment and provide the client with self-management skills.
  • Reassess client and progress treatment when appropriate.
  • Appropriate reflection and escalation to Senior clinicians when managing complex and novel tasks.

New graduate Physiotherapists will be supported through a comprehensive training, orientation and competency development program, with guidance from an experienced team of senior and clinical specialist physiotherapists. Ongoing education, professional development and participation in research and quality improvement activities are also strongly encouraged to support continued clinical and professional growth.

About you

This position is open to newly graduating physiotherapists who will obtain a recognised university degree in Physiotherapy by the end of 2026 and be authorised to practise as a Physiotherapist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) by 25th January 2027. Applicants must also be available to work weekends.

Requirements

Must hold qualifications recognised for registration with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia and hold general registration (or be eligible for same) with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia via AHPRA. Applicants must also demonstrate a sound undergraduate academic record and provide a current academic transcript (including Clinical Placement APP assessments and Clinical educator comments) as part of their online application.

  • Current unencumbered NSW drivers licence and willingness to travel across sites for meetings and clinical care provision
  • A willingness to work on a 7 day rotating roster including weekend work.
