Job summary

Singleton Council’s Water and Sewer Delivery team seeks a Network Operator to operate, maintain and construct water and sewer reticulation systems, following procedures to minimise safety, health and environmental impacts. The role involves customer interaction to ensure planned work is completed with minimal disruption.

A Certificate III Water Operations qualification is preferred, or willingness to obtain it, with potential training including MR licence and safety certifications.

Qualifications

  • Experience in water and sewer construction, operation and maintenance.
  • Ability to interpret plans, drawings, procedures and guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain and construct water and sewer reticulation including mains, fittings and service construction.
  • Repair and maintenance of water meters and associated pipework.
  • Installation, testing and maintenance of sewer services and pressure sewer systems.
  • Work in pairs or small groups for major repair or replacement works.
  • Restore customer assets after maintenance, e.g. paths, fences and landscaping.

ADD VALUE - THE ROLE

Our Water and Sewer Delivery team are a high performing, established crew providing a critical service to the Singleton Community. Working in small teams, they collaborate and cooperate with each other to provide operation, installation, maintenance and repair works for Council’s water and sewer distribution systems.

The Network Operator - Water and Seweris responsible for operating, maintaining and constructing water and sewer network systems, including planned, reactive and preventative maintenance duties. The position is required to follow instructions, procedures and standards and work in a manner to minimise safety, health and environmental impacts at all times. This position involves interactions with customers, the community, other Water and Sewer service units and business units across the organisation to ensure planned work and future scheduled works are completed successfully and with minimal disruption.

A typical day might include:

Independently carry out work relating to the operation, maintenance and construction of water and sewer reticulation including: new mains, fittings and service construction along with property connections, repairs and maintenance, installation, testing, replacement and repairs of water meters, associated pipework and sewer service connection point, sewer main and connection inspection, cleaning, repairs and maintenance and installation and maintenance of Pressure Sewer System / scheme and traffic control;

Working in pairs or small groups to complete major repair or replacement works;

Restoration of customer assets after maintenance repairs, such as concrete paths, fences, gates, paving, landscaping, lawns and plants;

Assist with the location, use and interpretation of plans, drawings, procedures and guidelines specific to the water industry.

Your experience in water and sewer, construction and/or plumbing industry will be complemented by a Certificate III Water Operations qualification, or willingness to obtain as supported under Council's Learning and Development Protocol.

It would be advantageous if you currently held, or can demonstrate a willingness and ability to obtain, through Council provided training (at no cost to you), the following:

Class MR or above licence

Implement traffic control

Confined space entry

Safe working at Heights

Operate high pressure jetting water system

Working near overhead powerlines

AQF3 Chemical safety

This position is offered on a Permanent, Full-time basis working 76 hours per fortnight on a team-based 9-day fortnight. This position participates in the on-call roster.

Remuneration package for this position is based on Grade 7 of Council's Salary System Protocol which equates to a base salary of $2711 - $3050per fortnightplus:

Market Allowance: $329 per fortnight
Retention Allowance: $2,142 after 12 months service
Superannuation: 12% superannuation and other award allowances in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award.

In addition to the base salary, a daily on-call allowance that equates to up to $463 per week when rostered, and regular overtime are available.
