Job summary

Western Downs Regional Council in Dalby, Queensland, invites applications for a two-year traineeship/apprenticeship in water operations. You will be paid full time while gaining practical, on-the-job experience and a nationally recognised qualification.

Join a supportive team delivering water and wastewater services, mentored by experienced professionals. You will complete a Certificate III in Water Industry Operations while developing skills across field work, customer service, and compliance

Qualifications

  • Need to hold a relevant Year 12 Certificate in Education OR be able to demonstrate equivalent related experience.
  • It is highly desirable to have a basic understanding of the Water Operations Industry.
  • Must complete Certificate III in Water Industry Operations (Network) within 24 months.
  • Hold a current Queensland C Class Licence (desirable).
  • Hold an OH&S Construction Induction White Card or be willing to obtain one prior to commencement.
  • Must undertake a Pre-Employment Medical.
  • Applicants may be required to undertake pre-employment literacy and numeracy tests.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team to achieve objectives.
  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining high attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with daily operation and maintenance of water and wastewater pipelines, bores, sewer pump stations and related infrastructure.
  • Field work and operating civil machinery within the water and wastewater network teams.
  • Undertaking manual handling / labouring duties as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Providing efficient and courteous customer service to Council's customers.
  • Carrying out work in accordance with WHS obligations.

Based at Dalby, the successful applicant will be:
  • Assisting with daily operation and maintenance of water and wastewater pipelines, bores, sewer pump stations and associated infrastructure, to meet required standards and timeframes;
  • Field work and operating civil machinery within the water and wastewater network teams, including Council plumbers;
  • Undertaking manual handling / labouring duties as directed by the Supervisor;
  • Providing efficient and courteous customer service to Council's customers;
  • Carrying out work in accordance with Council's WH&S obligations and responsibilities.
About yourself
  • Need to hold a relevant Year 12 Certificate in Education OR be able to demonstrate equivalent related experience. It is also highly desirable for the successful candidate to have a basic understanding of the Water Operations Industry;
  • Be required to complete a Certificate III in Water Industry Operations (Network) within 24 months;
  • Hold a current Queensland C Class Licence (is desirable);
  • Hold an OH&S Construction Induction White Card or be willing to obtain an OH&S Construction Induction White Card prior to commencement;
  • Be required to undertake a Pre-Employment Medical;

  • The ability to multi-task while maintaining high attention to detail.
