The Mission Software Solutions business delivers customized and off‑the‑shelf software solutions to Defence, Intelligence and other Government sectors. You will be joining a high‑profile program with a high‑profile agency, working on outcomes of national security significance. As a Network Infrastructure Engineer, you will design, implement, integrate and sustain enterprise virtualisation, compute, backup and infrastructure management platforms supporting secure customer environments. You will contribute across the infrastructure lifecycle, including automation, monitoring, backup and recovery, performance optimisation, patching and operational support. Due to the client environment and nature of the work, this position is required to be performed 100% onsite in either Melbourne or Canberra.
In this role, you will:
Design, build, configure, integrate and maintain enterprise virtualisation and infrastructure platforms, including VMware vCenter Server, ESXi environments and HPE compute and storage components.
Implement and support Commvault backup, recovery, retention and data protection services, and use VMware Aria or vRealize capabilities for automation, orchestration, monitoring and capacity management.
Monitor platform health, capacity, performance and availability; investigate complex incidents; and deliver patching, upgrades, migrations and technology refresh activities within controlled environments.
Apply infrastructure security, hardening, access control, configuration and change management practices, while maintaining clear technical designs, build guides, support procedures and configuration records.
We are looking for someone who brings judgement, curiosity and a collaborative approach to work that matters. You are an experienced Infrastructure Engineer who combines strong technical depth with a disciplined, customer‑focused approach. You enjoy troubleshooting complex issues, improving platform reliability and translating technical requirements into practical, supportable solutions.
Essential for this role:
Demonstrated experience designing, implementing and supporting enterprise infrastructure and virtualisation environments.
Strong hands‑on experience with VMware vCenter Server and ESXi, including highly available clusters, hosts, virtual machines, resource allocation and platform lifecycle activities.
Experience implementing or supporting enterprise backup and recovery solutions, preferably Commvault.
Experience with HPE server, compute or storage technologies.
Experience using VMware Aria and/or vRealize products for monitoring, operations, automation or orchestration.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical and root‑cause analysis skills across integrated infrastructure environments.
Sound understanding of infrastructure security, hardening, patching, backup, recovery, monitoring and configuration management principles, with the ability to produce clear technical designs, implementation plans and support documentation.
Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams, engage confidently with technical and non‑technical stakeholders, and manage competing priorities in a controlled, mission‑focused environment.
This role requires the successful applicant to be an Australian citizen and hold, and maintain, a TSPV clearance.
