Job summary

healthAbility is seeking a part-time Harm Reduction Lead to drive outreach programs, strengthen partnerships, and champion evidence-based practice. The role includes a regular after-hours shift and travel across sites to support community services in Melbourne's eastern suburbs.

You will work with multidisciplinary teams, apply data-informed decisions, and contribute to strategic planning and service development.

Qualifications

• Qualifications in AOD or related discipline.
• Experience leading high-performing teams.
• Experience in community health or primary health settings.
• Knowledge of harm reduction and evidence-based practice.
• Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel for outreach.

Responsibilities

• Lead harm reduction and outreach programs in the community.
• Perform after-hours outreach shift once every fortnight (7:30pm–11:30pm).
• Lead and support a dedicated after-hours outreach team.
• Drive service innovation and identify growth opportunities.
• Build partnerships across health, community, and government sectors.
• Champion health promotion and overdose prevention initiatives.
• Use data and evaluation to improve service quality and impact.
• Contribute to strategic planning and service development.
• Ensure services meet quality, compliance and accreditation requirements.
• Act as a sector leader and advocate in harm reduction.
• Help shape inclusive, culturally responsive services for diverse communities.

• Part-time (0.8 FTE) ongoing opportunity
• Based onsite Box Hill and requires regular travel between sites and attendance at off-site stakeholder meetings.

In this role you will:

• Use insights, data, and evaluation to continuously improve service quality and impact.
• Contribute to strategic planning, funding growth, and future service development.
• Ensure services meet quality, compliance, and accreditation requirements.
• Act as a trusted sector leader, advocate, and subject matter expert in harm reduction.
• Help shape inclusive, culturally responsive services for diverse communities.

Desired Skills and Experience

About You:

• Relevant qualifications in alcohol and other drugs (AOD), nursing, social work, community development, public health, youth work, allied health, or a related discipline.
  
• An experienced people leader with a passion for supporting and developing high-performing teams.
  
• Strong experience working within community health, primary health, AOD, or related services.
  
• A sound understanding of harm reduction principles and a commitment to evidence-based practice.
  
• An engaging communicator who can build trusted relationships with clients, communities, stakeholders, and partners.
  
• Confident working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and diverse community settings.
  
• Strong analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to use data and insights to inform decision-making and service improvement.
  
• Knowledge of relevant health legislation, governance, and ethical practice requirements.
  
• Self-motivated and able to work autonomously while contributing positively to a team environment.
  
• A current driver's licence and willingness to work across outreach and community settings.
