Job description

You don’t need years of experience. You need to be the kind of person who shows up.

If that’s you, keep reading.

At Fall Forward, we put connection first — working alongside NDIS participants of all ages to build skills, confidence and wellbeing.

We’re an NDIS provider seeking motivated, compassionate Disability Coaches to join our team in Cairns and surrounding areas. We’re growing, we’re active, and we’re looking for people who want to grow with us.

Why Join Fall Forward?

We know what drives good support workers out of this sector — shifts chopped and changed at the last minute, a different participant every week, never knowing what your fortnight looks like. We don’t run that way.

  • Guaranteed minimum hours every fortnight — you’ll know what’s coming in

  • Thoughtfully matched participants, so you build real relationships over time rather than starting from scratch every shift

  • Paid travel time a travel allowance

  • Paid training hours — when we ask you to upskill, you’re on the clock

  • Learn Auslan — and actually use it.

We provide supports to participants who are Deaf or hard of hearing and require Auslan interpretation. That means we don’t just offer Auslan training as a perk on a list — we fund it, we teach it, and you’ll use it in real relationships with real people every week. It’s a genuinely valuable, transferable skill set, and very few employers in Far North Queensland will pay you to build it.

Room to grow.

  • $30K annual training and mentoring package

  • Support to gain qualifications in Community Services

  • Clear internal pathways — many of our team have moved into senior support, mentoring and coordination roles

  • We’re actively expanding our services and footprint, which means new roles and new opportunities open up regularly. Get in now and grow with us.

Real support, not just an on-call number.

  • Structured onboarding and a clear practice framework the whole organisation works within — you’ll always know what’s expected and where to go

  • Ongoing supervision, mentoring and debriefing

  • Employee Assistance Program — free, confidential counselling for you and your immediate family

  • An experienced team that answers the phone

  • Continuous upskilling built into how we operate, not squeezed in around it

A workplace that’s genuinely part of the community.

We host a large number of community events throughout the year and are deeply active across Cairns and the Far North. You’ll be out in the community, building connections and helping our participants be visible and included — not just supporting people behind closed doors.

Plus:

  • Above award wages

  • Inclusive and supportive workplace culture – you’re not just an employee, you’re part of the Fall Forward Family

About the Role

You’ll provide person-centred support to NDIS participants in their homes and in the community, working to the goals set out in their NDIS plan and helping them:

  • Build independence and social skills

  • Engage in hobbies and community activities

  • Develop routines for physical, mental and emotional wellbeing

  • Communicate and connect — including supporting participants with hearing impairment through inclusive and accessible interactions

  • Exercise choice and control over their own supports

You’ll also keep accurate progress notes, support the delivery of participant plans, and work within the NDIS Practice Standards and NDIS Code of Conduct — including your obligations around reportable incidents.

This role involves both independent and team-based work, with some weekend and sleepover shifts required.

Required:

  • Resilience, positivity, and a willingness to have fun with participants

  • Current NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain)

  • Current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) — required for supporting participants under 18

  • Current First Aid/CPR and open Queensland driver’s licence

  • Your own insured vehicle and smartphone

  • Completion of the NDIS Worker Orientation Module — “Quality, Safety and You”

  • Commitment to the NDIS Code of Conduct

Highly Commended:

  • Certificate III or Diploma in Community Services or Individual Support (or willingness to begin study within 3 months of employment)

  • Existing Auslan skills at any level — beginner to fluent

  • Experience in mental health and supporting challenging behaviours

  • Understanding of positive behaviour support and restrictive practice obligations

  • Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and community values

Our Values

We live our values every day — they guide how we connect, care and grow together.

  • Integrity: Truthful, transparent relationships with all communities.

  • Leadership: Empowering the next generation through resilience and example.

  • Accountability: Taking responsibility and moving forward with respect and reconciliation.

  • Teamwork: Working together, lifting each other up to achieve shared goals.
