Job description

An Operational Data Manager is responsible for the governance, integration, quality, security, and use of warfighting data to support military operations, decision-making, and capability outcomes. The role ensures that operational data from platforms, sensors, intelligence sources, command and control systems, logistics networks, and other warfighting domains is accurate, accessible, trusted, and interoperable across the battlespace.

The Operational Data Manager develops and enforces data management frameworks, standards, and governance processes that enable effective information sharing and integration across joint, interagency, and coalition environments. They work closely with intelligence analysts, capability managers, and technical specialists to identify data requirements, improve data quality, and maximise the operational value of information assets.

By managing the lifecycle of warfighting data, the Operational Data Manager supports situational awareness, operational readiness, force integration, and decision advantage.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. • Actively contribute to the development of policy guidance and frameworks that guide Navy’s Operational Data Management efforts.
• Build and sustain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders and negotiate effectively to deliver outcomes.
• Be part of a team engaging with international partners on operational data management collaboration opportunities.
• Document relevant business requirements, business processes, data models, designs and specifications.
• Be accountable for accurate completion of work within timeframes, sharing own expertise with others and guiding and mentoring team members.

• An interest in the role that data plays in enabling warfighting capability.
• Strong analytical and research skills, and an ability to interpret and apply policy in defining business requirements.

• Experience working in an integrated workforce.
• Strong ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines.
