Nine is seeking a Business Editor for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, leading the national business desk and setting strategic editorial direction. The role oversees Sydney and Melbourne teams, guiding corporate and market coverage, personal finance, tech, and workplace content to drive independent journalism and digital subscriber growth.

• Proven track record leading high-impact business/economics coverage.
• Experience editing and mentoring reporters across multiple locations.
• Strong news judgment and copy editing skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead editorial strategy for national business desk across SMH and The Age.
• Manage reporters and producers in Sydney and Melbourne.
• Oversee editing, accuracy and digital packaging to hit engagement metrics.
• Drive major business stories, investigations and analysis.
• Leverage real-time analytics to optimize headlines and distribution.
• Collaborate with mastheads and multimedia teams for storytelling.
• Roster and manage operations and performance across newsrooms.
