Job summary

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation in Canberra is seeking a Multi-skilled Operator to work across news production, including camera operation, editing and studio production, bringing creativity to storytelling for ABC audiences across digital, television and live broadcasts.

You will produce high‑quality content, operate cameras, sound and editing gear at a high level, mentor junior staff, stay current with production techniques, and contribute to a collaborative team focused on delivering

Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent skills, knowledge and experience.
  • Recent, accomplished camera, sound, edit and live operations experience in News/Current Affairs, including breaking news and disasters.
  • Multi-discipline production experience (not a single specialism), including studio operations.
  • Familiar with online/mobile video platforms and producing content for them.
  • Broad, advanced knowledge of TV broadcasting, computer systems and emerging technologies.
  • Collaborative team player involved across all project stages to improve quality and solve problems.
  • Proactive learner who shares knowledge and supports continuous improvement.
  • Sound understanding of admin procedures and safe work practices.
  • Understanding of production processes, broadcast tech and equipment; able to learn and adapt to new technology.
  • Clear communicator who prioritises and solves problems while contributing creatively.

The Role

The ABC is looking for a Multi-skilled Operator to work across a variety of news production areas, including camera operation, editing, and studio production, while bringing your creativity to the storytelling process. You'll help create compelling, high-quality content for ABC audiences across digital, television, and live outside broadcasts, reaching people on a wide range of platforms.
