You will craft engaging, audience-focused journalism across politics and current affairs, meeting tight deadlines and guiding junior editors.

Qualifications

  • Extensive News and Current Affairs editing experience with strong operational, technical, and aesthetic expertise.
  • Creativity in elevating stories through pace and visual storytelling, especially in longer-form content.
  • Deep interest in politics and current affairs, with sound judgement to add depth and context to edits.
  • Skilled across all operational duties, including editing, News Exchange, and file-based syndication.
  • Calm and effective under pressure, consistently meeting tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven editorial, creative, and technical judgement, working independently and in teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; builds relationships across diverse teams and fosters team spirit.
  • Experience managing, training, and developing staff.
  • Passionate about telling stories that reflect Australia’s diversity.
