Job summary

Sacred Heart Mission in Melbourne is seeking a General Maintenance Officer to keep our buildings safe, functional and welcoming for residents and visitors. We have two vacancies, both full time, across SHM’s Melbourne property portfolio and sites including community services, residential and aged care.

You will handle day-to-day repairs, preventative maintenance, coordinate with teams and contractors, and ensure quality of work.

Qualifications

• Experience in a general maintenance role across multiple sites.
• Broad practical repair skills including carpentry, patching and painting, hardware and general building maintenance.
• Strong understanding of workplace health and safety and safe work practices.
• Ability to assess maintenance issues, prioritise requests and manage workload with minimal supervision.
• Good judgement when checking the quality and completeness of contractor work.

Responsibilities

• Complete repairs and maintenance across SHM sites (carpentry, patching, painting, hardware).
• Respond to maintenance requests and prioritise work by urgency and site needs.
• Carry out preventative maintenance and routine site inspections to identify defects.
• Complete room turnarounds between residents and readiness checks.
• Make sites safe after incidents and arrange follow-up works.
• Act as day-to-day site contact for maintenance contractors and manage access.
• Inspect completed contractor works and follow up defects or quality issues.
• Maintain maintenance records and contractor observations in SHM system.
• Source materials within purchasing limits and maintain tools and supplies.
• Support relocations, moves, deliveries and event set-up as required.
• Plan daily travel across multiple sites and work safely with qualified contractors.
