Job summary

SAHMRI is seeking a Diagnostic Scientist to join the Preclinical Imaging and Research Laboratories (PIRL) at Gilles Plains. You will provide diagnostic screening for murine pathogens and contribute to test development in collaboration with other groups.

The role involves handling live animals, bench work in molecular diagnostics, and supporting quality assurance activities. A bachelor’s degree in MLS or equivalent is required, with lab experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science or equivalent in MLS or applied science.
• Experience in a diagnostic laboratory setting.
• Knowledge of PCR and RT‑PCR techniques.
• Knowledge of serological techniques.
• Knowledge of basic microbiological techniques.
• Familiarity with lab practices and documentation.
• Ability to coordinate workloads and train staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide cost effective, timely diagnostic screening for murine pathogens using PCR, RT‑PCR, EIA & IFA assays.
• Support the Molecular Diagnostics and Serology sections and manage workloads.
• Perform necropsy, tissue and sample collection as required.
• Contribute to test development to broaden test offerings.
• Learn bacteriological techniques for organism identification.
• Assist in QA activities and audits.
• Keep up to date with relevant animal research and diagnostics.
