Job summary

BHP Group is seeking Mine Scheduling Engineers for Prominent Hill on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Adelaide or regional SA. You will bridge mine planning and execution, creating practical schedules to drive safety and productivity in underground operations.

You’ll collaborate with operations, technical services, maintenance and planning teams, identify risks, and support continuous improvement across the scheduling spectrum. Training and development are available.

Qualifications

• Mining Engineering qualifications or a related discipline, or significant operational mining experience.
• Experience in underground hard rock mining operations, with exposure to mine scheduling and/or mine planning.
• Knowledge of sub-level open stoping mining methods and underground ventilation systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain short-term or medium-term underground mine schedules that align with longer-term mine plans and business objectives.
• Monitor schedule performance and adjust plans to respond to operational constraints, opportunities and changing priorities.
• Identify bottlenecks and work collaboratively with stakeholders to develop practical solutions that support safe and efficient production.
• Facilitate and contribute to weekly planning and scheduling meetings.
• Coordinate activities across operations, maintenance, planning and technical services teams to ensure alignment and execution of the schedule.
• Identify and elevate scheduling risks, constraints and opportunities to support proactive decision‑making.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance scheduling practices, operational efficiency and mine performance.

About Prominent Hill

Prominent Hill is a well-established copper-gold operation within BHP’s Minerals Australia portfolio, with a strong future and ongoing investment.

Located 650km north-west of Adelaide, the site operates across underground and surface mining on an 8/6 FIFO roster.

A major shaft project is supporting underground expansion and extending mine life to at least 2040, creating long-term opportunities across the operation.

It’s a technically complex site where you can build your skills, take on new challenges, and be part of a team where safety and looking out for each other matters.

About the Role

As a Mine Scheduler at Prominent Hill, you’ll sit at the critical intersection between mine planning and mine execution. Your work will directly influence production outcomes, operational efficiency, safety performance, and the successful delivery of the underground mining plan.

We currently have opportunities in both Short-term Scheduling and Medium-Term Scheduling.

Working closely with operations, technical services, maintenance and planning teams, you will create and maintain practical schedules that enable safe, productive and efficient mining activities. This is a highly collaborative role where your ability to identify risks, solve problems and adapt to changing operational conditions will help keep the operation on track.

Whether your experience is in underground production, development, planning or scheduling, this role offers a strong opportunity to further develop your technical capability while gaining broad exposure across the mining value chain. You’ll be supported by experienced professionals who value continuous improvement, knowledge sharing and teamwork, with future pathways into Mine Planning, Production Engineering and Operations leadership roles.

In this role, you will:

About You

You are a collaborative and safety-focused mining professional who enjoys solving operational challenges and working across multiple teams to achieve results. You bring a strong understanding of underground mining operations and are motivated to continue building your scheduling and planning expertise.

To be successful, you will have:

• Mining Engineering qualifications or a related discipline, or significant operational mining experience.
• Experience in underground hard rock mining operations, with exposure to mine scheduling and/or mine planning.
• A solid understanding of underground mining activities including production, development, rehabilitation and mine services.
• Knowledge of sub-level open stoping mining methods.
• An understanding of underground ventilation systems and networks.
• The ability to identify, assess and communicate schedule risks, threats and opportunities.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to work effectively across operational and technical teams.
• Experience using Deswik Suite and Microsoft Office applications.
• Exposure to Power BI, SAP and production reporting platforms will be advantageous.

Previous scheduling experience is highly regarded, however candidates with strong underground operational experience and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply, with training and development support available.

Work Location

This role is based at Prominent Hill on an 8/6 FIFO roster, flying from Adelaide or regional South Australia.
