Your new role

Are you a midwife looking for the opportunity to make a difference and drive impact in women’s health? We are looking for a passionate Midwifery Research Associate (ALA) or Research Fellow (ALB) for a fixed-term opportunity lasting 12 months (with potential for extensions). This position can be full-time or part-time (with a minimum commitment of 0.6 FTE). Join our high-performing team and contribute to meaningful research at the Curtin School of Nursing.

In this role, you will work on a variety of established and emerging projects. The program of work is highly innovative and adopts a range of approaches, leading research that is already improving the health outcomes of women, children and families and advancing the midwifery profession. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with our established multi-disciplinary women’s health research team.

Selection Criteria
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in conducting high-quality research including grant writing, protocol development, ethics applications, stakeholder consultation, data collection, qualitative and quantitative data analysis and reporting.
  • Must hold registration as a midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • Evidence of a record of research outputs in high quality refereed journals with first author publications.
  • Evidence of innovative communication strategies and mediums to reach a variety of key stakeholders and target audiences.
  • Evidence of high-level organisational skills with demonstrated high levels of intrinsic motivation able to work independently and in collaboration to meet established goals.
  • Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with a range of stakeholders including industry executives, study participants, students and staff with cross cultural sensitivity and respect.
  • Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant and applicable policies, procedures and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the functions of this position.
Desirable
  • A doctoral qualification in relevant discipline (for example Public Health, Midwifery).
  • Demonstrated experience or desire to participate in supervision of HDR students.
  • A history of successful competitive grant applications.
Required for the Research Fellow (ALB level)
  • A doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline (for example, Public Health, Midwifery).
Notes on role and eligibility

Please note that this is one position, and the suitable candidate will be considered for either the Research Associate or Research Fellow role based on their experience, skills, and qualifications. All candidates are required to indicate in the selection criteria which level they would like to be considered for.

  • As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role.
  • Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction.
  • Unrestricted AHPRA registration as a midwife.
