What’s The Role

As we transition to cleaner forms of energy, the challenge facing the energy industry in the coming decades is considerable. Shell’s QGC Midstream is a two train LNG plant located on Curtis Island, Gladstone. You’re going to be a key part of our QGC Midstream leadership team, a team of professionals who are passionate about helping Shell safely and sustainably deliver more and cleaner energy solutions.

As the leader for Safety and Environment (S&E) at Midstream, you are expected to represent the HSSE discipline to the highest standards whilst partnering with the business, identifying issues and delivering timely and fit-for-purpose solutions, that comply with risk-based Regulations. You will role model a deep commitment to our values, code of conduct, safety and visibly demonstrate a simplification and delivery mindset, balancing immediate activities with longer-term direction setting.

You are expected to role model inclusive behaviours where different views and perspectives are encouraged and valued – set clear direction/expectations, motivate, build trust, intervene respectfully, enhance discipline credibility and balance life with work.

What You’ll Be Doing

As QGC Midstream S&E Lead, you will be leading a team of HSSE professionals and integrating HSSE delivery into the Asset operations and improvement plans. • Delivering HSSE support services in Shell QGC Midstream to implement and assure controls, drive continuous improvement, and enable delivery of world class health, safety, security and environmental performance.
  • Partnering with operations and contractors to develop and implement effective HSSE culture and controls.
  • Driving engagement and advocacy with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders (e.g. WHS), facilitating learning between teams, and working collaboratively with industry peers (e.g. Safer Together Gladstone Chapter) to share best practices and address common issues.
What You Bring

When it comes to nurturing collaborative stakeholder relations, your interpersonal and influencing people skills will make a difference. You will inspire people to make changes that will have a direct impact on our success. Furthermore, you will have:

  • Relevant Engineering or OHS/ Science degree.
  • Substantial experience leading teams, working alongside diverse teams and demonstrated positive safety culture impacts.
  • Substantial operational experience and knowledge of industry HSSE risks unique to LNG/ Major Hazard Facilities.
  • Substantial knowledge of national and international Health, Safety, Environment legislation and standards. Comprehensive knowledge in the application of HSE legislation, tools and techniques including applied experience with Safety Cases.
  • Strong understanding of how the spectrum of technical, regulatory, operational, commercial and nontechnical risk (license to operate) intersects.
  • Deep commitment to Goal Zero and personal accountability.
  • Substantial external stakeholder relationship management and liaison skills.
  • Extensive interpersonal and presentation skills and a willingness to proactively connect stakeholders across the business.
  • The courage to share views, insights, uncomfortable truths whilst championing and supporting decisions made.
  • The insight to reflect on competing views and model an Enterprise First example, especially where risk appetite mean compromises are made.
  • Relentless drive for simplification and improvement.
