Job summary

Downer Group is seeking a Methods & Optimisation Specialist for its Rail and Transit Systems team at the Pakenham site. You will develop, validate, and standardise maintenance methods across fleets and projects, translating requirements into shop-floor instructions and standard work.

The role spans collaboration with operations, planning, engineering and training, ensuring changes are trialled, operationally ready, and measured for safety, quality and life-cycle value.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification, Engineering qualification, or related technical discipline.
• Experience in rail/transport, heavy industry, manufacturing, mining, defence, or utilities.
• Strong maintenance planning and execution knowledge.
• Experience analysing maintenance and performance data.
• Familiarity with CMMS/EAM systems (SAP/Maximo/Ellipse).
• Ability to create and improve maintenance procedures and work instructions.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel and data analysis skills.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Experience in Rail Maintenance.
• Lean, Six Sigma, Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) or Continuous Improvement qualifications.
• Knowledge of FRACAS, RAMS, Asset Management, and Reliability Engineering.
• Experience using Power BI or other reporting tools.

Responsibilities

• Analyse maintenance and asset performance data.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Methods & Optimisation Specialist to join our Rail and Transit Systems team at our Pakenham site. The Maintenance Methods & Optimisation Specialist is responsible for the development, validation, standardisation and continuous improvement of rolling stock maintenance methods across RTS fleets and projects. The role translates maintenance requirements, overhaul procedures, inspection regimes and engineering changes into safe, efficient, technician-ready work instructions, task sequences, tooling requirements and standard work. Working across all functions including maintenance operations, engineering, planning, training, continuous improvement and site leadership, the role ensures new and changed maintenance tasks are trialled, operationally ready, embedded on the shop floor and measured for safety, quality, productivity, compliance and whole-of-life value.

Key Responsibilities:
