Job summary

Skilled Jobs Australia is seeking a Metal Fabricator for a prominent fabrication client. You will repair and fabricate structural steel and other metal to manufacture and repair products.

The role requires reading blueprints, selecting stock, and using flame cutting torches and cutting machines to shape components. Candidates should have AQF Cert III or at least 3 years of relevant experience, and be comfortable working independently or within a team.

Qualifications

• AQF Cert III or 3+ years relevant experience.
• Ability to read blueprints, drawings and specifications.
• Experience with welding, bolting and riveting.
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Study blueprints and specifications to determine job requirements.
• Select, clean and prepare metal stock.
• Cut and shape metal using hand tools, flame cutting torches and machines.
• Shape, bend and align metal sections; join using welding, bolting and riveting.
• Inspect welds for quality and finish products by cleaning in acids; smooth welds as needed.

Job description

Our client is a large fabricating company and is looking to employ Metal Fabricators to repair and fabricate various products. You will be required to fabricate structural steel and other metal to make and repair products.

To be successful in this role you would need to possess the following:

• AQF Cert III including at least 2 years of relevant experience OR at least 3 years of relevant experience may substitute for formal qualifications.
• Study blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine job requirements
• Select, clean, and prepare metal stock
• Cut marked-out metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame cutting torches and metal cutting machines
• Shape and bend metal sections and pipes using hand and machine tools, and by heating and hammering
• Align parts to be joined using hand tools
• Join metal sections using various welding techniques, bolting, and riveting
• Examine welds for width of bead, penetration, and precision
• Finish products by cleaning in acidic solutions
• Clean and smooth welds by filing, chiseling, and grinding
• Able to work efficiently on your own or within a team environment
