Job summary

Calder Care Services is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Support Worker to help a male participant in Wyndhamvale. You will assist with daily activities, provide emotional support, and promote independence in the community.

The role requires experience in mental health or disability support, strong English communication, and flexibility across day/evening/weekend shifts. A relevant certificate in support and a valid police check are required.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with clear English.
  • Flexible availability with day, evening and weekend shifts; 4–10 hours per shift.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate social, recreational and therapeutic activities to promote wellbeing.
  • Advocate for client needs and liaise with healthcare professionals and support networks.

  • Adhere to organisational policies and safety standards.

Job description

Calder Care Services are seeking dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Support Workers to join a care team for a male participant in the Wyndhamvale area. In this casual role, you will play a vital part in providing care and support to this participant, empowering them to live independently and actively participate in their community.

Key responsibilities
  • Assist the participant with daily activities such as household tasks, meal prepping and going on daily walks. *The walks may take place for 1-2 hours. Please do not apply for this role if this is going to be an issue.
  • Provide emotional support and build a positive professional relationship
  • Facilitate social, recreational, and therapeutic activities to promote client wellbeing. For example, access to community activities; such as going out for lunches/dinners, running errands, going to the local pools etc.
  • Advocate for client needs and liaise with healthcare professionals and support networks
  • Maintain accurate client records and documentation
  • Adhere to organisational policies, procedures, and safety standards
About you
  • Experience in mental health or disability support work
  • Ability to work with behaviours of concern and adhere to and understand a mental health safety plan
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with clear English
  • Flexible availability to suit client needs with shifts varying from daytime, evening and weekend shifts, minimum 4 hours extending up to 8 or 10 hours in duration
  • Compassionate, patient, and empathetic nature
  • Relevant qualifications such as Certificate III or IV in Individual Support (CHC33021), Certificate IV in Mental Health (CHC43315), Diploma of Mental Health (CHC53315) or equivalent
  • Experience in trauma informed-care is highly desired
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable and insured vehicle. Please note that participant has a small dog who comes along with him to outings. Before applying for this role, please be aware that the dog will need to come inside your vehicle at times.
  • Must hold an NDIS Workers Screening Check and valid Victorian Police Check (validity within past 3 years)
