Job summary

Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) invites applications for Mental Health Assistants in Nursing (AIN) to join our MHDA Service across multiple hospitals. The role focuses on recovery-oriented care in acute mental health settings, with strong multidisciplinary collaboration and supervision.

Remuneration is hourly, with up to 38 hours per week, and opportunities for permanent or temporary employment. NSW Health supports professional development and leadership pathways for nursing staff.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in second or third year of a Bachelor of Nursing or completion of HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Assisting in Nursing Work in Acute Care).
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills along with experience working within mental health.
• Contemporary mental health nursing knowledge and problem-solving skills along with the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team to the scope of AIN.

Responsibilities

• The mental health AIN within MHDA Services supports person-centre consumer health outcomes with a focus on recovery.
• The mental health AIN assists the nursing team in the provision of nursing care to mental health consumers within an acute care setting, through directed identified tasks and patient care activities under the direction of RN.
• The mental health AIN role supports the RN collecting of health care information, documenting, and communicating the information back to the RN within an identified Mental Health AIN Care Activities Map outlining the scope of practice.
