Job summary

Latrobe Regional Health in Gippsland invites applications for a General Medicine Registrar on a full-time fixed term basis. The role provides high-quality inpatient medical care alongside Consultants, JMO, interns and multidisciplinary teams to develop clinical expertise in a regional referral hospital.

Qualifications

  • MBBS (or equivalent) with current General Registration with AHPRA and RACGP registration.
  • Minimum of three years' postgraduate clinical experience with broad medical conditions.
  • Excellent clinical reasoning, decision-making and organisational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Committed to ongoing professional development and supervision of junior medical staff.
  • Adaptable, collaborative and dedicated to safe, patient-centred care in LRH.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive medical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of General Medicine inpatients.
  • Coordinate patient care and participate in multidisciplinary discharge planning for safe transitions.
  • Conduct daily patient reviews, maintain clinical documentation and communicate management plans.
  • Escalate clinical concerns and collaborate with consultants to ensure evidence-based care.
  • Provide supervision and teaching to Interns, Junior Medical Officers and medical students.

Latrobe Regional Health is looking for General Medicine Registrar to join our growing team on a full time – Fixed term basis.

We are seeking a motivated and capable General Medicine Registrar to join our General Medicine team. In this role, you will provide high-quality inpatient medical care while working closely with Consultants, Junior Medical Officers, Interns, and multidisciplinary teams to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients and their families. This position offers a valuable opportunity to further develop your clinical expertise, contribute to teaching and supervision, and gain broad exposure to diverse and complex medical presentations within a regional referral hospital.

The role of the General Medicine Registrar is to:
  • Deliver comprehensive medical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients admitted under the General Medicine service.
  • Coordinate patient care and participate in multidisciplinary discharge planning to support safe, timely, and patient-centred transitions of care.
  • Conduct daily patient reviews, maintain accurate clinical documentation, and ensure effective communication of clinical decisions and management plans.
  • Escalate clinical concerns appropriately and work collaboratively with consultants to ensure safe, evidence-based patient care.
  • Provide supervision, teaching, and support to Interns, Hospital Medical Officers, and medical students to foster learning and professional development.
  • Contribute to quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and compliance with clinical governance, accreditation, and organisational standards.
About you

Ideal candidates for this role will have:

  • Medical practitioner with an MBBS (or equivalent), current General Registration with AHPRA, and registration with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
  • Minimum of three years' postgraduate clinical experience with demonstrated competence in the assessment and management of a broad range of medical conditions.
  • Excellent clinical reasoning, decision-making, and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands in a busy healthcare environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Committed to ongoing professional development, evidence-based practice, and the education and supervision of junior medical staff.
