Job summary

The Northern Land Council seeks a Media and Communications Manager to lead a small team, delivering culturally informed communications that reflect Traditional Owners and Aboriginal communities across the Top End. You will implement strategic plans, strengthen public profile, and ensure authentic content across channels.

You will report to the General Manager Governance Strategy and Communications, advising the CEO and Chair while maintaining strong governance and effective stakeholder

Qualifications

• At least three years in a leadership role, leading and developing staff.
• Outstanding written communication skills with experience in copywriting, editing and proofreading.
• A relevant qualification in marketing, media, communications or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• C Class driver’s licence and willingness to travel remotely in a 4WD or light aircraft.

About The Role

Lead the NLC's media and communications function and help amplify the voices, priorities and achievements of Traditional Owners and Aboriginal people across the Top End.

The Media and Communications Manager leads a small team to deliver high-quality, culturally informed communications that represents the NLC and its constituents. You will implement the NLC's Media and Communications Strategy, advance NLC engagement with constituents and stakeholders, strengthen the organisation's public profile and ensure content is informative and authentic to the communities we serve.

Reporting to the General Manager Governance Strategy and Communications you will provide trusted strategic advice to the CEO, Chair and internal service areas on media, communications and engagement. You will oversee media relations, publications, social media, web content, branding and internal communications, while supporting effective stakeholder relationships, sound governance and strong team performance.

What You Will Bring

You are an experienced communications leader who combines sound judgement, political awareness and exceptional writing skills with a practical, people-centred approach. You can set strategy, respond confidently in a fast-moving media environment and work respectfully across cultures to turn complex issues into clear and compelling communications.

In Addition, You Will Have

• A relevant qualification in marketing, media, communications or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• At least three years' relevant experience in a leadership role, including leading and developing staff and managing competing priorities.
• Outstanding written communication skills, including demonstrated experience in copywriting, editing and proofreading across a range of channels.
• C Class driver’s licence and willingness to travel remotely in a 4WD or light aircraft

• Base salary of $150,000 per annum plus 15% superannuation paid on base salary and district allowance.
