This role can be performed in any State/Territory in Australia.

Role Purpose

The Media and Communications Coordinator plays a key role in delivering Teach For Australia’s Media and External Affairs Strategy, working closely with the Media and External Affairs Manager to amplify our mission, programs, and impact. This dynamic role is responsible for proactive media pitching, reactive storytelling aligned with the news cycle, and crafting compelling narratives through interviews with Alumni, our current program participants, and stakeholders.

The role also contributes to stakeholder engagement through newsletter development, internal communications editing, and content creation. It supports high-profile government relations events and helps extend our reach through strategic social media creation and amplification.

Qualifications and Experience

Tertiary qualifications in journalism, public relations, communications, or a related discipline.

Demonstrated experience in media relations, journalism, or public relations.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.

Experience producing eDMs using MailChimp or similar platforms.

Experience using media monitoring and database tools.

Experience using WordPress or similar platforms.

Experience using Canva or similar platforms.

Experience working within the education and/or NFP sector.

Skills, Attributes, and Knowledge

Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills across formats and audiences.

Proven ability to deliver creative and effective media and communications strategies.

Ability to synthesise complex information into clear and concise communications.

Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work cross-collaboratively across functions.

Proven experience in developing and distributing stakeholder newsletters, including content creation, audience segmentation, and performance analysis.

Experience in planning, managing, and delivering high-profile events, including stakeholder engagement, logistics management, and post-event evaluation.

Ability to set objectives, plan, use initiative, problem-solve, and deliver work independently to achieve positive media and external engagement outcomes for the organisation.

Understanding and commitment to addressing educational equity issues across Australia.
