Job summary

Orbital UAV is seeking a mechanical/mechatronic engineer to design and develop systems for drone and UAV powerplant applications. You will conduct testing, analyse performance, and collaborate with electronics teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components with ECUs and harnesses.

You will document designs, support troubleshooting, and drive improvements while ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.

Qualifications

• A degree in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proficiency in mechanical design software and tools.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, particularly using 8D or 7-step methodologies.
• Experience in developing and testing mechanical or mechatronic systems, particularly harnesses, wiring systems and ECUs.
• Strong understanding of testing, the application of GD&T, tolerance analysis and fit assessments.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• A proactive approach to project management and task prioritisation.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical and mechatronic systems to meet project specifications.
• Conduct testing and analysis to ensure system reliability and performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical components with electronic systems.
• Prepare detailed engineering documentation, including technical drawings and reports.
• Support the troubleshooting and optimisation of mechanical systems.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations in all designs.
• Manage project timelines and deliverables effectively.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering team.
