Job summary

Iluka Resources is seeking experienced Mechanical Technicians to join the Eneabba Rare Earths Refinery project. You will commission and ramp up the refinery, establish reliable mechanical systems, and support safe, efficient operations.

As the plant moves to steady-state production, you will perform preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance across fixed plant equipment, ensuring reliability and availability while adhering to safety standards.

Qualifications

• Mechanical trade qualification with hands-on experience in fixed plant equipment.
• Experience maintaining, servicing and repairing pumps, valves, hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and electrical/hydraulic drawings.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Commission and start up new mechanical equipment and systems; support testing and readiness.
• Inspect, service, maintain and repair fixed plant equipment.
• Perform preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance to improve reliability and availability.
• Apply isolations, permits to work and safe maintenance practices.
• Record accurate maintenance history in SAP and handover to operations.

Iluka Resources is a leading global producer of critical minerals, zircon and high-grade titanium dioxide feedstocks. In partnership with the Australian Government, Iluka is developing Australia’s first fully integrated rare earths refinery at Eneabba in Western Australia’s Mid-West. The refinery will produce both light and heavy separated rare earth oxides, supporting diversified global supply chains for minerals essential to defence, renewable energy, anything with an electric motor, robotics and advanced technologies.

About the role

We are seeking experienced Mechanical Technicians and Advanced Mechanical Technicians to join our team at the Eneabba Rare Earths Refinery. Reporting to the Maintenance Coordinator, you will help commission and ramp up the refinery, establishing reliable mechanical systems and maintenance practices that support safe and efficient operations.

As the plant transitions into steady-state production, you will perform preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance across a wide range of fixed plant equipment, supporting safe, compliant, reliable and efficient plant operation. Your work will be critical in maximising equipment reliability, plant availability and operational performance.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the refinery’s future, with new camp accommodation and facilities provided.

Key responsibilities:

• Commission and start up new mechanical equipment and systems, supporting testing, inspections and operational readiness activities

• Inspect, service, maintain, troubleshoot and repair fixed plant equipment, including pumps, valves, hydraulics, evaporators, mixers, settlers, thickeners, pneumatics and associated processing equipment

• Perform preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance activities to improve equipment reliability and plant availability

• Apply isolations, permits to work and safe maintenance practices while carrying out maintenance activities

• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, reliability and operational performance

• Record accurate maintenance history in SAP and complete quality handovers with operational and maintenance teams

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A Mechanical Fitter trade qualification

• Experience maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing fixed plant equipment in an industrial, processing or mining environment

• Experience commissioning, servicing, aligning and overhauling mechanical equipment, including pumps, valves, hydraulics and pneumatics

• Strong fault-finding, diagnostic and problem-solving skills

• The ability to read and interpret technical manuals, equipment drawings and hydraulic circuit diagrams

• Experience with condition monitoring techniques, including vibration analysis and oil sampling, is advantageous

• White Card, Forklift, Elevating Work Platform, Working at Heights, Non-slewing crane, Confined Space and Dogman qualifications or licences

• Previous SAP maintenance experience is highly desirable

• A strong commitment to safety, procedural discipline, equipment reliability and teamwork
