Job summary

UGL Pty Limited is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to join our site-based project delivery team on a FIFO roster. Reporting to the Senior Project Engineer or Project Manager, you will coordinate and manage mechanical construction activities, ensuring work is delivered safely, on schedule and within budget.

You will review drawings, manage subcontractors, support procurement and report on progress, quality and costs while fostering strong client and stakeholder relationships on major energy

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience as a Project Engineer within construction, mining, energy, renewables or industrial projects.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specs and technical documentation.
  • Understanding of project controls, scheduling and cost management.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Willingness to work on a FIFO roster.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise mechanical construction activities onsite.
  • Manage subcontractors and suppliers for safe, efficient completion.
  • Monitor progress against schedule and assist recovery planning.
  • Review engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Prepare work packs, methodologies and progress reports.
  • Ensure compliance with quality requirements and standards.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing and commissioning activities.
  • Assist with procurement and material management.
  • Support forecasting, cost control and budgeting.
  • Identify project risks and opportunities.
  • Provide regular updates to project leadership teams.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join our site-based project delivery team on a FIFO roster. Reporting to the Senior Project Engineer or Project Manager, this role will be responsible for coordinating and managing mechanical construction activities onsite, ensuring work is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget and to the required quality standards. ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of mechanical works from planning through to commissioning and handover.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and supervise mechanical construction activities onsite.
  • Manage subcontractors and suppliers to ensure works are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor project progress against schedule and support recovery planning where required.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Prepare and manage work packs, construction methodologies and project reports.
  • Ensure compliance with project quality requirements, specifications and standards.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing and commissioning activities.
  • Support procurement and material management activities to ensure timely delivery of equipment and materials.
  • Assist with project forecasting, cost control and budget monitoring.
  • Identify and manage project risks and opportunities.
  • Prepare progress reports and provide regular updates to project leadership teams.
  • Foster a strong safety culture and ensure all works are completed in accordance with UGL and client HSE requirements.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
ABOUT YOU
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Previous experience as a Project Engineer within construction, mining, energy, oil & gas, renewables or industrial projects.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical construction and installation activities.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating subcontractors and site-based workforces.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Sound understanding of project controls, scheduling and cost management principles.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Commitment to safety leadership and quality outcomes.
  • Willingness to work on a FIFO roster.
Highly Regarded
  • Experience delivering mechanical works on energy, renewables, industrial or resource sector projects.
  • Exposure to commissioning and startup activities.
  • Experience with piping, tanks, pumps, rotating equipment, pressure vessels or process plant installations.
  • Knowledge of Australian standards and construction regulations.
  • Previous EPC or major projects experience.
