Role Description

This full-time, on-site Mechanical Fitter/Machinist role is based in Gladstone, QLD and involves the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of industrial machinery and mechanical components. Day-to-day tasks include diagnosing mechanical issues, performing fitting and machining work to specified tolerances, assembling and disassembling equipment, and carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance on various mechanical systems. The role requires reading and interpreting technical drawings, using hand and power tools, operating workshop machinery (such as lathes, mills, and grinders), and ensuring all work meets safety and quality standards. The Mechanical Fitter/Machinist will collaborate with other technicians and supervisors to plan jobs, document work performed, and support continuous improvement of workshop processes. Adherence to workplace health and safety procedures and participation in toolbox meetings and risk assessments are essential aspects of this position.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical fitting skills, including Fitting and working with Machinery in workshop or industrial environments.


• Proficiency in Machining operations, such as turning, milling, drilling, and grinding to precise tolerances.


• Experience with Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance of mechanical equipment and systems.


• Relevant trade qualification (e.g., Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade or equivalent) and demonstrated experience as a Mechanical Fitter/Machinist.


• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions, with solid problem-solving and fault-finding abilities.


• Commitment to safe work practices, familiarity with WHS requirements, and a strong focus on quality and attention to detail.


• Effective communication skills, reliability, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.


• Forklift, overhead crane, or confined space certifications, and experience in heavy industry or mining environments are advantageous.
