Job summary

Kempe Engineering Geelong is seeking a qualified Mechanical Fitter to join our Moon Street branch in a full-time permanent role. This hands-on position offers variety, including valve overhauls, gearbox fault-finding, and machining on lathes and mills.

You will be part of a small, skilled team that values precision, safety, and teamwork, with opportunities to train apprentices and contribute to process improvements. This role is based in Geelong with potential shutdown work at client sites.

Qualifications

• Experience as a tradesperson in a workshop and site maintenance
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
• Knowledge of trade quality requirements

Responsibilities

• Working safely and productively every day
• Overhauling and repairing process and control valves
• Overhauling and repairing gearboxes and pumps
• Repairing hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders
• General mechanical fault finding and fitting
• Machining on manual lathes, mills, borers and drills
• Being an active member of a small team of skilled tradespeople
• Following JSEAs and SOPs, completing workshop activities to specification, on time and in line with QA
• Occasional site work and regular shutdowns at client sites
• Mentor apprentices and contribute ideas to improve procedures

THE POSITION

Kempe Engineering Geelong is looking for a qualified Mechanical Fitter to join our Moon Street branch in a full-time permanent role.

This is a hands-on role for a tradesperson who enjoys variety. One day you could be overhauling valves, the next your fault finding on a gearbox, working on a shutdown or machining a component on the lathe. You will be part of a small, close-knit team of highly skilled tradespeople, where your experience counts and the work is anything but repetitive.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

What you’ll be doing:

• Working in a safe and productive manner, every day
• Overhauling and repairing process and control valves
• Overhauling and repairing gearboxes and pumps
• Repairing hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders
• General mechanical fault finding and general fitting
• Machining using manual lathes, mills, borers and drills
• Being an active member of a small team of highly skilled tradespeople
• Following JSEAs and SOPs, and completing workshop activities to specification, on time and in line with QA procedures
• Getting out on site, with regular shutdowns at a range of client sites
• Helping train and mentor our apprentices
• Contributing ideas to continually improve Kempe’s procedures

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE ROLE YOU WILL HAVE

What we’re looking for:

• At least 4 years’ experience in workshop and/site-based maintenance
• The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and information
• Sound knowledge of trade quality requirements
• Strong time management and planning skills, with an organized and focused approach
• Good problem-solving ability
• Good written and verbal communication
• A flexible, positive attitude and a team-first mindset
• High risk license's are preferred (Working at Heights, Confined Space, EWP, forklift)
