Job summary

Abbot Point Operations is seeking a Mechanical Fitter to join the maintenance team at the Port of Abbot Point. You will safely deliver rectification works to heavy equipment, carry out fault finding, inspections, and scheduled maintenance to support continuous operation of terminal assets.

Relocation assistance is available, with a lifestyle roster and access to the Whitsundays. The role requires High-Risk licences and MEM certificates, plus several years of heavy industrial experience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in a heavy industrial environment.
• Must hold High-Risk licences (Rigger, Franna, EWP, Dogman, Forklift, etc).
• RII tickets (confined space, working at heights, etc).
• Experience with design, assembly, manufacturing, installation, modification, testing, fault finding, commissioning, maintenance and service of mechanical equipment.

Responsibilities

• Provide first response to equipment breakdowns and rectify faults to enable continuous operation.
• Carry out inspections and high priority works from alarm/condition reports.
• Complete scheduled maintenance as directed by Maintenance Supervisor.
• Perform fault finding, repair or replacement of components as required.
• Communicate equipment delays and downtime to shift supervisor.
• Utilise SAP for maintenance management.
• Perform shift handovers (day/night) as per lifestyle roster.
• Mentor Apprentices/Trainees.

For more than 40 years, the North Qld Export Terminal, located at the Port of Abbot Point, has demonstrated its commitment to safety, efficiency, responsibility, and partnership with the local community.

APO has been contracted by North Queensland Export Terminal Pty Ltd to manage operations of it’s coal export terminal at the Port of Abbot Point—Australia’s northernmost coal port—located 25 kilometres north of Bowen, between Townsville and Mackay, serving as the gateway to the Whitsundays.

Abbot Point Operations has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Fitter to join our team. As a key member of our Maintenance team, you will safely deliver rectification works to the terminals infrastructure in the event of breakdowns. You will carry out inspections and other work as directed by the Production and Maintenance Supervisor which supports the continued operation of Terminal assets.

You will be required to work on a range of heavy industrial equipment including stacker reclaimers, shiploaders, conveyor systems, hydraulic systems, sampling streams and train unloading facility in conjunction with electrical personnel in a bulk material handling facility.

What You’ll Do:

Provide first response in the event of equipment breakdown, carry out fault rectification works to enable continuous operation of equipment.

Carry out inspections and high priority works from daily alarm and condition monitoring reports, with a sound understanding of workshop and equipment.

Complete scheduled maintenance set by the Maintenance Supervisor.

Perform fault finding, repairing and or replacing of components as required.

Communicate with shift supervisor equipment delays and down time.

Use Maintenance Management Systems (SAP).

Preform shift handovers form (day to night / night to day rotation, Life style roster).

Coaching and Mentoring Apprentices/Trainees.

What We’re Looking For:

High-Risk work licence (Rigger, Franna, EWP, Dogman, Forklift, etc)

RII Tickets (confined space, working at heights, etc)

5 years’ experience in Heavy Industrial environment

Worked rotating rosters (night/day)

Able to demonstrate previous experience in the design, assembly, manufacture, installation, modification, testing, fault finding, commissioning, maintenance and service of all mechanical equipment
