Job summary

Porter Engineering, based in the Hawkesbury region, seeks 3-4Mechanical Fitters for an ongoing, full‑time role. The job involves hands-on maintenance, reading drawings, and diagnosing equipment faults within a fast-growing local manufacturing setting.

You will work 10-hour days across five days with on-site duties and safety focus. Ideal candidates hold trade qualifications or an apprenticeship, have MIG/TIG welding experience, and a NSW driver's license.

Qualifications

• Trade qualifications or apprenticeship as a Fitter/Turner/Machinist or equivalent.
• Based in Hawkesbury or willing to travel with reliable attendance.
• Hold NSW driver's license and be eligible to work in Australia.
• Experience in maintenance within manufacturing or FMCG is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Use hand tools, power tools and precision measuring instruments.
• Read and interpret drawings, blueprints and maintenance manuals.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues efficiently.
• Maintain high safety and quality standards on site.
• Log maintenance on the SCADA system and support callouts as required.

Job Description

About the role: Porter Engineering are a fast growing company located in the heart of the Hawkesbury. We are looking to expand our workforce for a local manufacturer, and seeking 3-4 experienced Mechanical Fitters for an ongoing role.

Key responsibilities

• Use of hand tools, power tools and precision measuring instruments
• Working with mechanical systems and have a solid understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics and general engineering principles
• Reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals and equipment specifications
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues efficiently
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high safety and quality standards
• Ability to work independently whilst also being a collaborative team member
• Silo cleaning, general preventive maintenance, and breakdowns
• Attending callouts and time tracking, both accurately and in a timely manner
• Logging of maintenance on SCADA system

Requirements

• Be fit and eligible to work, and hold either an Australian citizenship or working visa
• Be Hawkesbury based or have a willingness to travel with a commitment to being at work on time
• Hold a NSW drivers license
• Trade qualifications or equivalent experience as a Fitter, Turner or Machinist, preferably with recognised credentials or apprenticeship completion

The ideal candidate will

• Be available to work a minimum 5 days/week, 10 hours/day
• Have previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment or FMCG
• Have previous experience with MIG and TIG welding
• Have previous experience with breakdowns
• Have strong mechanical aptitude and practical skills in the use of hand tools, power tools and precision measuring instruments
• Have a strong levels of capability and problem-solving skills
• Be able to work independently and as part of a team
• Have strong commitment to workplace health and safety
• Have a willingness to undertake ongoing professional development and training
