Job description

Lead the CAD function that shapes rugged technology for Defence and industry. At APC Technology, we design and manufacture mission-critical computer hardware that performs in the toughest conditions.

We’re looking for a Lead CAD Design Draftsperson to take ownership of our CAD environment, set the standard for drafting excellence, and drive integration between SolidWorks Mechanical and SolidWorks Electrical.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the CAD environment: manage standards, templates, libraries, PDM workflows, and CAD governance.
  • Drive integration between SolidWorks Mechanical and SolidWorks Electrical to create seamless electro-mechanical design outputs.
  • Deliver quality outputs: create and review complex models, drawings, assemblies, schematics, and BOMs with accuracy and manufacturability in mind.
  • Lead and mentor: guide junior drafters and engineers in CAD best practices, GD&T, and drafting standards.
  • Collaborate across disciplines: partner with mechanical, electrical, production, and supply chain teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Optimise processes: introduce automation, macros, and continuous improvement to speed up drafting and reduce rework.
Requirements
  • Significant experience as a mechanical draftsperson/design drafter with leadership responsibilities.
  • Expert in SolidWorks Mechanical, with advanced knowledge of assemblies, sheet metal, surfacing, weldments, BOMs, and PDM.
  • Experience in (or strong interest in) SolidWorks Electrical integration for unified electro-mechanical design.
  • Strong GD&T skills and drafting standards knowledge (AS 1100 / ASME Y14.5).
  • In-depth understanding of manufacturing processes (sheet metal, machining, coatings, finishes, DFM/DFA).
  • Proven ability to mentor others, set standards, and lead CAD-related decision making.
What We Offer
  • Competitive package: salary, superannuation, and performance bonus.
  • Opportunity to grow and lead: mentor others and shape our CAD capability for the future.
  • Collaborative work environment: work at the intersection of engineering, production, and compliance.
