Job summary

Cronos Steel Processing is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with AI and automation capabilities to join our team. You will prepare and release CAD drawings, determine material requirements, and develop practical engineering solutions to improve manufacturing processes and operations.

Reporting to the engineering team, you will lead process improvements, support assessments, and use data analysis to boost productivity, quality and equipment reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Working knowledge of Python, data analysis, APIs and automation.
• Strong understanding of steel manufacturing processes, including pressing, rolling, and cutting (plasma, laser).
• Knowledge of various types of steel, their properties, and applications.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review and release accurate CAD drawings, CNC programs and setup sheets for manufacturing processes.
• Translate customer drawings and job specifications into clear manufacturing instructions.
• Determine material requirements, specifications and quantities based on drawings and project requirements.
• Assess manufacturing feasibility against machine capacity, tooling availability and process limitations.
• Optimise CNC cutting paths and nesting to improve machine efficiency and material utilisation.
• Review and update existing CAD/CAM programs to improve efficiency and accuracy.
• Develop, review, and maintain engineering documents, specifications, and technical analyses.
• Support product development and testing activities.
• Solve mechanical engineering problems and assess technical and commercial merits of different plans and methods.
• Develop and implement AI-assisted tools for drawing review, manufacturing capability assessments, quotation support and technical documentation.

ABOUT US:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer with AI and automation capabilities to join our team. The role involves preparing and releasing technical drawings using CAD software, determining material requirements and developing practical engineering solutions to improve our manufacturing processes and operations. Working closely with the production and sales teams, the Mechanical Engineer will lead process improvements, support manufacturing assessments and use AI and data analysis to improve productivity, quality and equipment reliability.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Technical Drawing and Material Determination:
  • Develop, review and release accurate CAD drawings, CNC programs and setup sheets for manufacturing processes.
  • Translate customer drawings and job specifications into clear manufacturing instructions.
  • Determine material requirements, specifications and quantities based on drawings and project requirements.

  • Develop, review, and maintain engineering documents, specifications, and technical analyses.
  • Support product development and testing activities.
• Problem Solving and Commercial Analysis:
  • Solve mechanical engineering problems.
  • Work closely with the sales and production teams to assess the technical and commercial merits of different plans, designs and manufacturing methods
• AI, Data Analysis and Automation
  • Develop and implement AI-assisted tools for drawing review, manufacturing capability assessments, quotation support and technical documentation.
  • Validate AI-generated outputs against engineering calculations, technical requirements and workshop results before operational use

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Working knowledge of Python, data analysis, APIs and automation

Experience:

• Strong understanding of steel manufacturing processes, including pressing, rolling, and cutting (plasma, laser).
• Knowledge of various types of steel, their properties, and applications.

Skills:

• Proven experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in a production environment.
• Proficiency in CAD software and finite element analysis.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct commercial analysis.
