Glencore Technology in Brisbane, Queensland, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for a permanent, hybrid role. You will design mineral processing and smelting plant equipment, lead designers, and develop budgets, ensuring performance and cost efficiency across projects.

The role requires a Mechanical Engineering degree, 2+ years of relevant Australian experience, and eligibility for RPEQ within a few years. Travel domestically and internationally is anticipated.

Qualifications

• Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 2 years Australian post‑grad experience in mineral processing or smelting equipment.
• Eligible for RPEQ status within 2–3 years.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
• Experience with plant design, hydraulics and slurry systems is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Deliver detailed designs of mineral processing and smelting plants and equipment, including drawings and QA plans.
• Coordinate a small team of designers across multiple projects.
• Complete plant/equipment design for multiple projects.
• Develop project estimates and budgets.
• Ensure designs are optimised for performance, cost, and technical integrity during proposals.
• Identify opportunities for innovative design solutions and continuous improvement.

We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a rare opportunity to join a small team introducing industry-changing technology. This position reports through to a Principal Mechanical Engineer in the Engineering Department and focuses on the mechanical equipment design, as well as plant design and layout around the equipment, in support of GT’s technologies.

The role requires good interpersonal skills to communicate technical and commercial issues with clients, with the passion and tenacity to make a difference in the mineral processing industry.

You will be responsible for:

• Delivering detailed designs of mineral processing and smelting plants and equipment, including engineering drawings, documentation, manuals, procurement plans and QA plans.
• Coordinating a small team of designers across multiple concurrent projects.
• Completing the plant/equipment design required for multiple projects.
• Developing project estimates and budgets.
• Ensuring designs are optimised for performance, cost, and technical integrity during marketing and proposal stages.
• Identify opportunities for innovative design solutions and continuous improvement.
• Working with vendors, suppliers, and fabricators to address QA requirements, inspections, and factory acceptance testing

To thrive in this role, you will have:

• Australian citizenship/residency.
• Tertiary qualification/s in Mechanical Engineering.
• A minimum of 2 years relevant Australian post-grad experience, preferably in the design of mineral processing or smelting equipment.
• Be eligible to apply for Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) status in the next 2 – 3 years.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent written and verbal communication.
• The ability to deliver scheduled tasks efficiently and work proactively within a small team environment.
• A willingness to travel domestically and internationally, as required.
• Experience in plant design, particularly involving hydraulic and slurry system design, would be advantageous.
