Job summary

Glencore Australia, at Oaky Creek Coal in Tieri, seeks a Mechanical Engineer to maximise equipment reliability, support maintenance strategies and ensure safety and compliance. You will work with a dynamic team in a demanding mining environment.

Applicants should have 2+ years of coal mining equipment experience, a relevant mechanical qualification, and strong planning and communication skills. Relocation and housing support are available.

Qualifications

• Over 2 years’ experience with coal mining equipment.
• Experience interpreting Coal Mining Legislation and Codes.
• Excellent attention to detail and a self-motivated, proactive approach.
• Can-do attitude and eagerness to work with the Mining Team.
• Excellent communication and planning skills for dynamic environments.
• Strong IT skills with intermediate AutoCAD proficiency or better.

Responsibilities

• Maximise the availability and reliability of coal mining equipment to improve safety and production metrics.
• Assist in developing maintenance strategies with stakeholders for major mechanical equipment.
• Ensure the maintenance planning and scheduling system functions effectively.
• Participate in root cause analysis sessions after equipment failures.
• Stay abreast of industry safety alerts to minimise workforce risk.
• Ensure new and existing equipment meets Australian Standards and legislation.
• Manage mechanical projects to meet scope, budget and quality.
• Act as a delegate for the MEM in their absence.

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager (MEM), you will be part of a dynamic, experienced and supportive team and will be primarily focused on managing asset capability and delivery.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

• Maximising the availability and reliability of all mechanical equipment to continuously improve and optimise safety and production metrics.
• Assisting in the development of maintenance strategies by working with various stakeholders for all major mechanical equipment at the mine.
• Ensure the effective functioning of the maintenance planning and scheduling system.
• Participation in and running root cause analysis sessions after equipment failures.
• Staying abreast and communication of industry safety alerts to ensure the lowest possible risk to the workforce and the business at all times.
• Ensure that all new and existing equipment is designed and manufactured to meet the requirements of legislation and applicable Australian Standards wherever possible.
• Manage mechanical projects to ensure contractual obligations are met and the project is delivered within the agreed scope, budget and to the required quality standards.
• Act as a delegate for the Mechanical Engineering Manager in their absence.

As the successful Mechanical Engineer, you will have:

• At least 2 years’ experience with coal mining equipment
• A relevant mechanical engineering qualification or a mechanical trade background
• Experience interpreting Coal Mining Legislation and Codes
• Excellent attention to detail, be responsive, enthusiastic, innovative and a self-motivated person
• A can-do attitude and are keen to work with the Mining Team in a dynamic environment
• Excellent communication and planning skills and the ability to excel within dynamic environments
• Strong IT skills and the ability to use AutoCAD at an intermediate level or better is preferred
