Job summary

Raytheon Australia is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the Minor Vessel Capability for the Australian Defence Force. You will lead design, analysis and lifecycle support for mechanical components across WA, NT and QLD fleets.

The role operates within a matrix organisation on MV CLCM projects, requiring travel and the ability to obtain NV1 clearance. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience, a mechanical or mechatronic degree, and strong capability in design documentation, hazard

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering with CPEng pathway.
  • Minimum of five years’ relevant experience with a university degree.
  • Experience in mechanical discipline activities and systems engineering practices.
  • Experience in mechanical design, documentation and maritime vessel maintenance.
  • Ability to travel as required and obtain NV1 Defence Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, implement and support mechanical components and subsystems.
  • Provide guidance to integration teams on mechanical issues and trouble reports.

Mechanical Engineer.

Raytheon Australia was selected in December 2020 to provide Capability Lifecycle Management Services to the Commonwealth for its fleet of Minor Vessels. This is an important Capability for the RAN. The fleet of Minor Vessels are spread across WA, NT and QLD. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for Mechanical discipline related activities overseeing the successful development and delivery of Engineering Changes for this fleet.

The role is within the recurring services team to provide mechanical engineering services to support RAN vessels in sustainment and support transition into service and through life.

The Mechanical Engineer will normally be allocated to a project and carry out allocated tasks within the project. All work must adhere to the processes, budgets and timetables assigned to the allocated tasks, as directed by the project plans. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Perform design, analysis, implementation, test and lifecycle support of nominated mechanical components, modules, subsystems and configuration items. Understand the operation and functional performance requirements of mechanical hardware assigned to their responsibility.
  • Provide assistance/direction to integration teams in resolving trouble reports that involve mechanical issues.
  • Conduct the review of contractual documentation assigned to their responsibility. Identify project and product risks and escalated using the project’s defined processes.
  • Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels.
  • This position will operate within a matrix organisation and supports the MV CLCM Program directly.
Skills, Experience And Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering, with professional development sufficient to attain Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) recognition with Engineers Australia in a relevant engineering stream, including the ability to attain RPEQ registration.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience where a university degree is held.
  • Experience conducting mechanical discipline activities, including involvement in one or more Systems Engineering practices such as requirements development, engineering design, design integration, and verification and validation.
  • Experience developing and reviewing mechanical engineering documentation, including discipline-related calculations, mechanical CAD drawings, hazard logs, work instructions, test procedures, and engineering reports.
  • Experience in mechanical design and maintenance of maritime vessels.
  • Experience in Configuration Management
  • Knowledge of statutory regulations and Classification rule sets.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision‑making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at client, peer, supplier, and senior leadership levels.
  • Ability to produce clear, well written, and well‑presented reports to a high quality and standard.
  • This position may require availability to travel when required.
