Job summary

Design & Build Recruitment in Melbourne is seeking a Mechanical Draftsperson with HVAC specialization to join our client’s team in Dandenong South. You will produce accurate mechanical drawings supporting design through construction, in a collaborative environment with project managers, engineers and site teams.

The ideal candidate has experience with HVAC systems, ductwork and plant layouts, and is proficient in AutoCAD with BIM coordination experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience as Mechanical Draftsperson or HVAC drafter in commercial construction.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC ductwork, pipework and plant layouts.
• Proficient in AutoCAD; BIM experience preferred.
• Ability to interpret drawings and specs and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Produce detailed mechanical services drawings, including HVAC ductwork, pipework, plant layouts and associated building services.
• Prepare mechanical shop drawings, fabrication drawings and construction documentation.
• Coordinate mechanical designs with electrical, hydraulic, structural and other building services disciplines.
• Identify and resolve design clashes and constructability issues before works commence on site.
• Interpret engineering designs, specifications and project documentation to develop accurate drawings.
• Update drawings to reflect design changes, site conditions and project requirements.
• Prepare as-built drawings and maintain accurate drawing registers and document control.
• Liaise with project managers, engineers, subcontractors and site personnel to support efficient project delivery.
• Ensure drawings comply with relevant Australian Standards, project specifications and installation requirements.

The Opportunity

Our client is a well-established Tier 2 mechanical and electrical contractor delivering commercial, industrial and technically complex building services projects across Melbourne.

Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Mechanical Draftsperson to join their team in Dandenong South. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically capable drafter with experience in HVAC and mechanical building services to work closely with project managers, engineers and site teams, producing accurate drawings that support project delivery from design through to construction.

Key Responsibilities

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

• Previous experience as a Mechanical Draftsperson, HVAC Draftsperson or Mechanical Services Drafter.
• Experience within commercial construction, mechanical contracting or building services.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, including ductwork, pipework and mechanical plant layouts.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, with Revit and BIM coordination experience highly regarded.
• The ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
• A strong understanding of construction sequencing, coordination and practical installation requirements.
• Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with project and site teams.
