Job summary

Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) is seeking a Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC1) to join the McGrath Cancer Care Nurse – Breast in Young. You will deliver expert, compassionate nursing care to women across the region, with outreach to nearby towns and communities.

You will provide care through all cancer journey stages, including diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and follow-up, while supporting patients and families with education and decision-making.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with AHPRA authority to practice.
• Minimum 5 years full-time equivalent post-registration clinical experience, including 3 years in oncology/breast care.
• Ability to coordinate comprehensive, individualized care plans.

About The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC1) to join our team as a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse – Breast, based in Young.

As the McGrath Cancer Care Nurse, you will support people through every stage of their breast cancer journey — from diagnosis and treatment through to rehabilitation, follow-up and, where appropriate, palliative care. You will provide expert, evidence-based clinical care while helping patients and families navigate the physical, emotional and practical challenges of cancer.

About You

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate and to be successful in the role:

• Current Authority to Practice As a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
• At least 5 years fulltime equivalent post registration clinical experience, with 3 years experience in oncology, breast care nurse or related discipline.
• Coordinate and facilitate comprehensive, individualised care and management plans.
• Provide specialist breast cancer nursing care across diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, follow-up and, where appropriate, palliative care.
• Identify and respond to complex physical, emotional, psychological and practical needs, including distress and vulnerability.
• Provide expert education, information and support to patients and carers to promote informed decision-making and self-management.
• Build strong referral pathways and relationships across hospital, community, primary care, oncology, palliative care and specialist services.
• Provide clinical leadership and support the delivery of evidence-based breast care services.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless, person-centred care across the cancer journey.
• Maintain contemporary knowledge of breast cancer treatments, supportive care and emerging evidence, contributing to research, education and quality improvement.
• Promote evidence-based practice, clinical standards, policies and the McGrath Model of Care, while participating in and having access, to ongoing professional support, development and specialist guidance.
• Travel across Murrumbidgee Local Health District as required to provide specialist breast cancer support and services.
