Job summary

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in materials/metallurgical engineering or closely related field.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience.
• Knowledge of metallic materials, microstructure–property relationships, and material performance assessment.

Responsibilities

• Investigate properties, microstructure, mechanical behaviour and suitability of metals and other engineering materials for specific applications.
• Review requirements and recommend material selection based on service environment, strength, durability, performance, specifications and cost.
• Plan and coordinate laboratory test programs (mechanical testing, hardness testing, metallography, advanced materials characterisation) and interpret results.
• Investigate material failures by reviewing service history and test data; determine causes and recommend actions.
• Assess corrosion, erosion, wear, heat treatment and welding-related effects on material performance and remaining fitness for service.
• Develop and improve testing methods, procedures and quality controls to meet project specifications.
• Prepare engineering assessment reports and material selection advice for clients and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with laboratory personnel, inspection teams, engineers and clients while maintaining safe work practices.
