Job summary

Haskoning in Newcastle, Australia, is seeking a Maritime Engineer – Structures to design and inspect coastal and maritime infrastructure across Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific. You will work within a global team to deliver tailored engineering solutions that support sustainable development and resilient communities.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with maritime specialization or strong background.
  • Chartered engineer or working towards chartership.
  • Minimum 4–8 years of relevant maritime infrastructure experience.
  • Proficiency in structural engineering software SpaceGass, STAAD.Pro, and/or Tekla Tedds.
  • Experience with technical reporting, structural inspections, and construction support activities.
  • Willingness to travel locally, interstate, and internationally when required.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver concept and detailed designs for maritime structures (wharves, jetties, quay walls, seawalls).
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical reports, design documentation, and feasibility studies.
  • Support development of construction documentation, specifications and Bills of Quantities.
  • Conduct structural inspections and provide technical advice during design and construction phases.
  • Manage small projects, coordinate design activities and contribute to client relationships.

Join our growing Water & Maritime team in Australia and work on challenging projects that shape ports, waterfronts, coastal infrastructure, and navigation facilities across Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific.

What you will do as Maritime Engineer

As a Maritime Engineer in our Newcastle office, you will support the design, delivery and inspection of a wide range of coastal and maritime infrastructure projects. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams and clients, and provide technical solutions that support project success.

  • Deliver concept and detailed designs for maritime structures such as wharves, jetties, quay walls, seawalls, pile structures, waterfront developments and navigation aids.
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical reports, design documentation and feasibility studies.
  • Support the development of construction documentation, specifications and Bills of Quantities.
  • Conduct structural inspections and provide technical advice during the design and construction phases.
  • Manage small projects, coordinate design activities and contribute to client relationships and business development opportunities.

As our new Maritime Engineer – Structures, you will become part of our Water & Maritime team in Australia. The team delivers tailored engineering and scientific solutions across Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific, specializing in maritime, coastal, riverine, and waterfront infrastructure projects. You will collaborate with highly skilled engineers and consultants on projects that support sustainable development and resilient communities.

What you bring

You are a proactive and collaborative engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges and working in multidisciplinary teams. You deliver high-quality work, communicate effectively with colleagues and clients, and are motivated to continue developing your expertise in maritime structural engineering.

  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, with a specialization or strong background in maritime structures.
  • You will be a Chartered engineer or working towards your chartership.
  • Minimum 4-8 years of relevant experience in the design and delivery of maritime infrastructure projects.
