Job summary

Haskoning in Australia is seeking a Maritime Engineer – Structures to design and inspect coastal and maritime infrastructure across Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific. You will work in Newcastle, deliver designs for wharves, jetties, seawalls, and navigation aids, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams while aiming for sustainable development.

The role requires 4–8 years' maritime experience, a Civil or Structural degree, chartership progress, and proficiency in SpaceGass, STAAD.Pro,

Qualifications

  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, with a specialization in maritime structures.
  • Chartered engineer or working towards chartership.
  • 4–8 years of experience in design and delivery of maritime infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in SpaceGass, STAAD.Pro and/or Tekla Tedds.
  • Experience with technical reporting, inspections and construction support.
  • Strong communication and willingness to travel locally and internationally when required.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver concept and detailed designs for maritime structures such as wharves, jetties, quay walls, seawalls, pile structures, waterfront developments and navigation aids.
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical reports, design documentation and feasibility studies.
  • Support development of construction documentation, specifications and Bills of Quantities.
  • Conduct structural inspections and provide technical advice during design and construction phases.
  • Manage small projects, coordinate design activities and contribute to client relationships and business development opportunities.

What you will do as Maritime Engineer

As a Maritime Engineer in our Newcastle office, you will support the design, delivery and inspection of a wide range of coastal and maritime infrastructure projects. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams and clients, and provide technical solutions that support project success.

You will collaborate with highly skilled engineers and consultants on projects that support sustainable development and resilient communities.

What you bring

You are a proactive and collaborative engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges and working in multidisciplinary teams. You deliver high-quality work, communicate effectively with colleagues and clients, and are motivated to continue developing your expertise in maritime structural engineering.

  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, with a specialization or strong background in maritime structures.
  • You will be a Chartered engineer or working towards your chartership.
  • Minimum 4-8 years of relevant experience in the design and delivery of maritime infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency in structural engineering software such as SpaceGass, STAAD.Pro, and/or Tekla Tedds.
  • Experience with technical reporting, structural inspections, and construction support activities.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to travel locally, interstate, and internationally when required.
