Job summary

MIPEC Marine Consultants & Surveyors in Gladstone, QLD, is seeking a qualified Marine Transport Professional to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis.

The role involves planning, coordinating ship operations, supervising deck crew, maintaining ship systems, and ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. 2–3 years’ bulk carrier experience, fluent English, and the ability to pass medical/drug tests are essential.

Qualifications

• Relevant Australian qualification or overseas equivalent.
• 2–3 years relevant work experience, preferably with bulk carriers.
• Experience in duties listed (bulk carrier operations)
• Fluency in English (spoken and written)
• Able to pass Medical/Drug & alcohol test and obtain a driver licence

Responsibilities

• Plan, control and coordinate the operational and maintenance requirements of ships and equipment onboard.
• Operate marine equipment and perform routine maintenance on ship systems (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, steam, fire protection).
• Supervise shipping operations to ensure safe and efficient loading and transportation.
• Maintain compliance with safety and environmental regulations at sea.
• Supervise deck crew for navigational support, berthing/unberthing, and deck gear repairs.
• Navigate ships per planned routes and ensure safe speed and procedures.
• Review hull/equipment designs when required and organize repair schedules as needed.
• Conduct periodic surveys to ensure standards are maintained and plan repairs as required.

Marine Transport Professional MIPEC Marine Surveyors and Consultants – Gladstone, QLD Full Time – Permanent $130,000 - $150,000 plus Super About Us: MIPEC Marine Consultants & Surveyors is a long established firm with head office based in Gladstone, Queensland.

MIPEC MCS also services ports in New South Wales, Brisbane and Victoria. We are seeking a qualified and experienced Marine Transport Professional to join our team of Marine Professionals based in NSW to carry out the following job duties.

The Role:

• Plan, control and coordinate the operational and maintenance requirements of ships and equipment onboard
• Operating marine equipment and doing routine maintenance on ship's systems including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, steam generating, and fire prevention and control systems
• Supervising shipping operations to ensure the safe and efficient loading and transportation
• Maintaining compliance with industry regulations pertaining to safety at sea and protection of the marine environment
• Supervising and directing the activities of the deck crew for navigational support tasks, berthing and unberthing, maintenance, cleaning and painting of superstructures, and repair and replacement of defective deck gear and equipment
• Navigating a ship by supervising the ship's course and speed according to planned passage routes and follow safety procedures as applicable
• Examining and approving design plans of hulls and equipment when necessary
• Conducting periodic surveys throughout a ship's life to ensure standards are maintained – organise repair schedules where required

About You:

• Relevant Australian qualification or overseas equivalent
• 2-3 years relevant work experience, preferably with bulk carriers
• Previous experience in job duties mentioned, on bulk carriers
• Fluency in English
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office software
• Be able to pass Medical/Drug and alcohol test (no restrictions)
• Physically able to board a vessel from a boat using a pilot ladder
• Ability to work in a roster, including evenings, nights and public holidays
• Obtain an Australian driver licence
