About the Royal College of Pathologists Australasia

The Royal College of Pathologists Australasia (RCPA) is the leading organisation representing pathologists and senior scientists in Australasia.

Pathology involves the study of the causes of disease. Pathologists are specialist medical doctors involved in the diagnosis and monitoring of almost all acute and chronic illnesses.

The RCPA was established in 1956 and has been responsible for the training and professional development of pathologists since that time. We also provide training programs for senior scientists working in pathology.

RCPA has around 4500 members practising in private and public pathology sectors across Australasia, including Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. The College is also responsible for the promotion of the science and practice of pathology.

The RCPA is a not-for-profit organisation governed by a Board of Directors. It comprises more than 50 staff members and is located in the heritage-listed Durham Hall in Surry Hills, Sydney, NSW however applications will be accepted from candidates Australia wide.

About the Role

In this role full time role, you will coordinate all editorial operations of the RCPA’s scientific journal, from submission, peer review, and author communications, through final technical editing and issue production.

Reporting to the Head of Membership and Engagement, you will ensure that manuscripts are processed efficiently, that journal policies and ethical standards are upheld, and that publication deadlines are met. Part time opportunities will be considered for the right applicant.

Responsibilities

Coordinate the full editorial workflow from submission and peer review through to publication.

Provide support to the Editors-in-Chief, Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editors, and Editorial Board.

Uphold editorial and ethical standards, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timeliness.

Collaborate with the publisher, authors, and reviewers to maintain journal quality and visibility.

Lead initiatives to enhance submissions, readership, citation impact, and international profile.

Contribute to the journal’s long-term strategic direction.

Provide providing leadership and guidance to support high editorial standards.
